Stripper 101Pole sports are often a subject that keep the eyebrows in the room high, but it’s come a long way from the often perceived “sleazy” roots of the old days. While more and more women are turned on by the benefits of pole sports, ladies of all backgrounds are flocking to local studio’s to get a taste of the one of a kind results you get only while training on the pole! From weight loss to boosting confidence, the range of positives for the hobby are so wide that the sport has attracted many elderly women looking for an alternative to high stress cardio workouts.

Most pole instructors note the positives, but not very often do you hear about the negatives from the instructor’s point of view. While the negative aspects are simply things most gym-goers deal with on a daily basis, it takes a special person to influence and motivate people no matter what. That’s where the trainer comes in, having to deal with a slew of different personalities and body types is more of a challenge than most realize. One has to be able to identify specific strengths and weaknesses in each student to help them overcome any obstructions as confidently as possible.

Instructors are the key-stone that keep the women in class constantly moving forward and pushing towards their goals. Always offering bits of advice and even acting a safety net most of the time, a good instructor can see you not only trim that figure and make yourself more desirable, they can even land you in regional competitions if that’s what you want to do! There are no limits when it comes to pole fitness, you can keep going as far you’d like or reach that goal and simply practice those moves to maintain your shape or impress that significant other.

A few things instructors always advise though are actually universal among all studio teachers. Things such as not wearing baggy clothing, while many assume the women who practice pole fitness wear skimpy clothes to show off, that could not be farther from the truth! The lack of clothing is made to ensure as much skin to pole contact as possible. The entire foundation of complicated pole routines is your ability to grip the pole using muscles that don’t usually have the luxury of a good grip, so it is essential the skin stays un-oiled, un-lotioned and clean before you start your session. The repercussions for not following the ultimate skin rule could be painful, as many new students don’t realize just how complicated some of the pose’s and moves really are.  While underestimating the complicated nature of pole fitness is an easy thing to do, you can’t really understand until you have tried it for yourself.
